Amino acids are the raw buildings blocks of neurotransmitters and life. They are key to mental and physical performance.

For years, athletes swore by a subset of essential amino acids called branched-chain amino acids (BCAAs). BCAAs, however, contain just 3 of the 22 amino acids.

Emerging research continues to find that BCAAs don’t work as well as initially thought (Amino Acids Journal).

BCAAs have side effects that essential amino acids (EAAs) don’t (Nat Med., Nutrients, J Nutr.)

Of course, there are also important “non-essential” amino acids like glycine and taurine. Both of which are great for longevity and overall health.

EAAs stimulate growth and repair better than whey protein (Metabolism J). Amino acids also:

Shilajit is a natural, sticky, blackish-brown resin found primarily in the Himalayan mountains and other high-altitude regions. It forms over centuries from the slow decomposition of plants.

Vitamin D3 + K2

Vitamin D is actually a pro-hormone, a substance that the body converts to a hormone.

Vitamin D is involved in over 1,000 biological processes. Sadly, it is one of the 3 most common vitamin deficiencies.

When your Vitamin D levels are low, you will likely experience:

  • Depression
  • Allergies
  • Fatigue
  • Faster aging
  • Weakened immune system
  • Skin health complications
  • Blunted exercise recovery (Nutrients Journal)

It’s essential to supplement with D3 (the more potent form of Vitamin D compared to D2) to increase your D levels. But it’s important to take D3 with K2.

Otherwise, you risk having too much calcium in the blood (hypercalcemia), a toxic condition. And end up with stiffened and damaged blood vessels, impairing blood flow.

  • Alpha-linolenic acid (ALA) – found in plant oils like flaxseed, hemp, walnut; needs to convert to EPA then to DHA in the body; significantly less bioavailable as conversion process is very inefficient

These fatty acids are essential for health because the body cannot make them. You need to get them through your diet or supplementation.

Omega-3 oils are found in various foods and supplements:

  • Marine sources– Fatty fish such as salmon, mackerel, sardines, and herring are rich in EPA and DHA
  • Plant sources– Flaxseed, hemp, and walnut oils are rich in ALA
  • Supplements– Fish oil, krill oil, and algae oil supplements provide concentrated EPA and DHA

When choosing an omega-3 oil supplement, choose one that’s highly bioavailable and more stable in the presence of heat & air. Exposure to high heat and air will degrade omega-3s, turning them into inflammatory free radicals.

  • 3rd-party lab testing – Do their ingredients and/or product batches undergo rigrorous & verified 3rd party lab testing? Are their Certificates of Analysis (CoA) published on their website or made available upon request? Are the CoAs current?
